PRP Q&A

What is PRP therapy?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a safe nonsurgical injection procedure that rejuvenates your skin.

Before a PRP injection, your provider draws your blood, and then separates your blood’s platelets from the other cells. They then increase their concentration by using a process called centrifugation.

During a PRP injection, your provider injects this higher concentration of platelets into your skin to improve facial complexion, volume, or texture. This process allows your body to stimulate collagen production and cell development.

What does a PRP injection treat?

You may be a good candidate for a PRP injection if you want to improve:

  • Hair loss
  • Bald spots
  • Facial scarring
  • Acne marks
  • Collagen and elastin
  • production
  • Aging skin
  • Stretch marks
  • Fine lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Sun damage

PRP injections can treat these same problems on your hands, neck, or chest. Injections can also treat age and liver spots and the visibility of blood vessels on your hands. Because of PRP’s restorative nature, it also treats joint issues like arthritis.

Your provider makes the PRP injection from your own blood, so fortunately, there is no risk of an allergic reaction.

What happens during a PRP injection appointment?

Your MediFreda provider performs a thorough exam and discusses your cosmetic goals with you before proceeding with a PRP injection. They then draw a small amount of your blood.

They put your blood in a centrifuge, a device that allows your provider to collect three times more platelets than in a normal blood sample.

They then numb your injection site to be sure you’re comfortable. Your provider uses a micro cannula that ensures they can inject your blood deeply and avoid bruising or swelling.

It’s normal for you to feel some sensitivity at the injection site but the procedure is overall painless.

Afterward, you can return to your daily activities and avoid rigorous exercise for 24 hours. Your provider encourages you to put ice on the injection site every two to three hours in the first few days after your treatment.

You can expect to see improvements after your first appointment and you can undergo another procedure every four to six weeks.

If you’re looking for healthier, radiant skin, schedule a PRP appointment online or by phone today at MediFreda.
